We talk with Ali Nolan, author of the new book, Master the Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide for Women. Ali informs us that as recently as 1966, women were forbidden to run in the marathon! Professionals—including doctors—believed it was physically impossible and dangerous for women to run more than a mile and a half. But as with many other barriers women have faced over time, women fought their way in.

Ali shares helpful tools if you have a tendency to overthink, ignore the positive, or beat yourself up. She gives practical advice on how to be kinder to yourself, reframing negative thoughts, and letting go of self doubt.

Ali Nolan is a journalist and contributor for Runner’s World. Ali is active in empowering women in the running world. She has given talks at the Under Armor Women’s Panel and many other events. Ali has completed multiple marathons and countless other races.
